NFL vice president of operations Ray Anderson has admitted the league's culpability in the Cowboys video board controversy. Anderson told reporters in New York that the league didn't do an "appropriate job" researching the minimum height needed to prevent the video board from getting hit by a punt. The league minimum was 85 feet. The Cowboys hung the video boards 90 feet above the field. "Prior to that the research was very inexact," Anderson said. "It was a guesstimate. And we as a department, we came to the conclusion that 85 feet was appropriate. That was a mistake on our part. At the end of the day, there was a lack of communication. But if we see a rule . . . that needs tweaking (we must move on it)." Source: Tom Orsborn, mysanantonio.com
Only thing i hate about the rule is that it gives the advantage to the return team. The special teams that kicks it is tired and has to run down the whole field again there winded.
They shouldent be able to which is why it should be raised. **********Automerged Doublepost********** I dont know some punters have really good hangtime on there punts
We all knew this already. The stadium was built to spec. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be moved... no matter who pays for it.
The simple fact is it's too low, so needs to be raised, whoever foots the bill. Jones knew it was too low. McBriar kicked it up to 100 feet high in their tests (at least twice, I believe) and they still placed the board at about 90.... Just because the NFL got it wrong, doesn't exempt the Cowboys front office from doing the right thing and taking notice of the testing that they did.
Yes he was able to kick it that high but he said you had to try and do that and it was not a type of kick you would do during the game. I think that if the NFL wants it moved this season they should pay for it, if they redo the rules during the off season then Dallas should. Unless a lot of kickers do hit it I do not think it will be moved till the season is over. I do wonder what will happen if no one hits it this season will the NFL still change the rule.
I have heard this but have not seen it and writing but part of the ruling about a ball hitting it was just for punts and that if a pass did it would just like they grounded the ball.
