Ravens Unwilling To Part With Defensive Talent For A Receiver

The Ravens are light on receivers because Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome wanted to keep the best players on his roster regardless of position. The Ravens are loaded with depth on the defensive side of the ball, and Newsome wasn't willing to part with a lot of it. The same thing can be said by some of the teams loaded with receivers.

But by giving up a first round pick for a receiver and giving him a big contract you don't have to pay a first round pick. You don't lose anything really. Still, Ngata and Reed have to come first.

Thanks for all the love 52 - I know a stud WR would be great but I'm pretty certain that we're further ahead WITH all our defensive talents (Suggs, Ngata, Reed, etc. w/o even mentioning Ray) than we are without them and with the bigtime WR.
That having been said if we were to throw alot of money at the stud WR now and then pay Ngata in the uncapped year I'd be pretty happy.

These defensive guys don't want to leave. I can't see Ngata going anywhere, or Reed pulling a Brian Dawkins. That said, we still need to show them the $. We can always (and should next year) draft a receiver in the first round. I know we haven't had much success with that in the past (cough Travis Taylor cough), but that can always change.

I really liked what I saw this pre-season with Kelly Washington. I know the Ravens need another WR, but if Clayton could ever step it up they would be ok.

That could be true, but a lot of those players could be loyal to Ryan and when it comes time for FA, they just may jump ship and go to the Jets, if at that time the offensive output looks to be more promising on the jets. It's definitely something to keep in mind.

I think the loyalty factor goes more to Ray Lewis than Rex Ryan - he's always been the heart of that team, even now that we're trying to balance offense with defense.

We have 4 solid, capable WR's, just no game breakers.....which is not a huge need to win but makes it easier and makes you more explosive, we dont have alot of needs so im perfectly fine with waiting until free agency and the draft to address the WR position

I think it is more the Ravens Defense has been together for so long they want to get another Super Bowl together.

Thank you raven fans I love that way of thinking!, the Longer the offense isnt adressed the longer it will take for the ravens to beat us lol, havent said that I love and respect the ravens D outside of our own the 2 best in the NFL.
I think to get to the next level you must adress the needs you have WR the D will be fine always have with mentors on every level of the D.With an uncapped year coming I think Big Ben 2(Flacco) would be awesome this year if he had more toys to play with say another vet wr to go with Mason and an young one as well.
I know there has to be a back up that is able to step in and there not be that much of a drop off on D who ever they can trade what ever happens best of luck this year!

Did you see the pre-season. The offense and Joe Flacco looked pretty damn good. Ray Rice is a much better back than Parker and with more experience Flacco will be on the level with Ben in my opinion. The Ravens O-Line in my opinion is better than the Steelers, but they are both top O-Lines. The receivers is the only place where I see the Steelers have an advantage and it isn't that big of an advantage. mason is just as proven as Ward as being a go to big time receiver. The only difference is the Ravens don't have a Holmes type of receiver. I am hoping and I liked what I saw in Kelly Washington to fill that #2 role this season. Beyond that Heap & Heath Miller are both good reliable tight ends. The offenses are not really that much different.

We are getting close to a huge transition at that position, i think next year is when they will make big decisions at WR. The only guy we currently have under contract for next season is Marcus Smith and he is on IR this season
