They came bc it was a rare occassion to see a game, but we all support our NFL teams and won't jump on the UK bandwagon. Plus a stay at London is anything but cheap and London is on an island west of the European continent an not central like Paris or Berlin.

    Please, not this crap again...
No one can predict if locals would become fans of the new team. But I guess all English (or European) NFL followers already have a favorite team.
As Olly said, it's one thing to come by thousands to see ONE game. It's another task to fill a stadium 8 times a year with a team that certainly would not be competitive right away.

why the hell is everyone so against this? it literally doesnt effect you at all, unless you live in europe which i know some of you do. you dont have to root for them and then you could stop snitching when they have one a year over there that could possibly take a home game away from your team....the schedule is gonna be made 18 games, why not add a few more teams if they can

I guess it would effect you if the move a team to London or elsewhere, instead of expanding the league.

I know several british NFL fans who would drop their current favorite team in a NY minute if there was a team in London. Just like the majority of Baltimorons love the ravens not the Colts. It's easy to let go of a team far away in favor of the one in your back yard. Add to that the lingering sense of seperation and superiority to "the colonies" that most in England feel and I suspect that 90 percent of Briitish NFL fans would embrace their new team and a lower but still pretty high percent of the rest of European fans would too. I also think that the majority of Europeans still probably wouldn't give a heck either way but if Goodell thinks the interest is high enough I say try it. It can't really HURT the sport and it could help it. If it fails, then it fails.

The way Robert Irsay run away from Baltimore has make it hard for the fans to keep on rooting for the Indianapolis Colts. But I guess a Baltimore native would tell it better.

I think you underestimate the love some European fans have for their NFL team. I know guys in France that have been following teams like the Bengals for 20 years (since Super Bowl XXIII for many) and remained fans even during those long crapty years.
I am a 49ers fan and it's not been really fun for the last 6-7 years but I don't see myself switching allegiance to another team just because it plays in Europe.

I know there are some fans who won't switch. But I think that there are more that will and for the ones who don't...well those fans are some of the biggest NFL fans and many of them will go to games whether they adopt the local team or not. I'm not saying they will buy season tix or anything but they will go to a few games

there are enough Americans living over in Europe to fill the stadium consistently. They would all buy season tickets just to get some U.S. flavor.

However, where the NFL is miscalculating this endeavor is that local TV ratings will start out high because Europeans will be curious but then they will tank because the only people left watching will be the Americans.

Goodell appears determined to put a team in London. It's not the right thing but I guess he's the boss.

And they would make a real compelling story.... right up until the point where they root for a team that did the same thing.

As always, if it makes more money, its gonna happen. If it doesn't, it won't. It wouldn't be too hard to schedule the bye after your London trip. If they expand the number of games, you'll probably have multiple bye weeks anyway.

Maybe at Europe, but not in the UK.

For Dutch and Germans, Godell is the evil.
How many fans do you expect in the UK and how many do you expect to change teams? Would you become a Cowboys fan, when you move to Dallas?
