Raiders safety Mike Mitchell stayed after practice Tuesday, working on punt coverage with two undrafted members of the practice squad. Special-teams duty wasn't what the Raiders had in mind when they drafted Mitchell in the second round this year. Given his ongoing hamstring problems, it will have to do as far as career kickoffs go. "I'll get my opportunities when they come," Mitchell said. "It is frustrating, but I'll get my chances.' Source: San Francisco Chronicle
Give they guy a break. You can't throw a rookie who hasnt played in any pre-season games stright into an NFL game at safety, he will get eaten alive. He will get more chances as the season progresses.
Just saying that because someone was taken in the second round it doesnt mean that they will be expected to contribute straight away, especially at WR or DB. 16 players were taken at these positions in the 2nd round last year, only DeShaun Jackson, Eddie Royal & Donnie Avery made much of an impact early in the season. It doesnt mean that the others were not good picks, for all we know Sweed might turn out to be a solid NFL starter as might Mitchell. Time will tell.
not to mention he missed most of preseason with a hamstring injury the dude hasnt had any live action. So hell get it on special teams and i heard some other special packages.
