The NFL has reviewed the play that led to Donovan McNabb's rib injury and ruled there was "no illegal hit on the play," a league spokesman told the Daily News today in an email. McNabb broke a rib, coach Andy Reid said, after Carolina nose tackle Damione Lewis dived onto McNabb after the quarterback hit the turf on a touchdown run midway through the third quarter. The Eagles were expected to bring the play to the league's attention, but spokesman Greg Aiello said teams do not have to file a complaint. "All plays are reviewed by our officiating department," Aiello wrote. "The officiating department refers any plays that should be reviewed for possible discipline to Merton Hanks, our director of football operations and development. The McNabb play has been reviewed and there was no illegal hit on the play." Source: Philadelphia Daily News
Here's how I see it: 1. If McNabb wasn't in the end zone already and was somewhere on the green of the field there is no issue here. The play was still alive. But this fat heck had nothing to gain by dropping his butt on top of him when he had already scored. 2. If McNabb didn't get injured, no one (including me) would be snitching about a late hit. 3. If this were on the sideline, that crap would have drawn a flag for a late hit. Guarantee that. Granted, it wasn't an overly late hit and tubbo probably didn't care enough to put on the brakes, but it still pisses me off.
I understand you frustration, but... 4. If McNabb didn't go plopping his big butt into the end zone in a already decided game we wouldn't even be talking about this.
Competitors only know one speed while playing. I find nothing wrong with what McNabb or Lewis did. It's football. Nice to know what chicken neck is up to. I didn't know Merton had this position with the NFL until today. I always liked him.
Yea true guys... I mean why anyone ever QB slide, run out of bounds, throw the ball away to not take an unnecessary hit... cat non-competitors. The game, was over. Should have just took the field goal.
If he didn't get hurt because of a close to late hit, nobody would talk about his decision to run for a TD. I find zero fault in what he did. We'll just have to disagree on this, I guess.
Your right. He didn't really do anything wrong. I'm just hating a little bit because you guys won so big, but it's just unfortunate really.
Should have just taken the field goal for 2 reasons. 1. McRibb wouldn't have been hurt 2. My damn under would have covered!!!!!
The hit on McNabb was legal and has happened countless times in the past. That does not mean I like it, there are a lot of times that defenders take an unneeded shot at a players that has scored a TD. I am talking about times when the player has clearly scored a TD and the defender still comes in and levels a hit on them knowing that no matter what happens the TD has still been scored. I do not like this and feel that some players take advantage of this. That being said I do not think you can change the rules cause then defenders would have to worry about hit someone if it is going to be close.
funny, many snitch mcnabb doesnt run when the chance is there. to say he shouldnt have done that must have missed the 4:57 it took for the eagles to score 21pnts earlier in the game.
BS - If Brady, Manning, or Brees got broken ribs..... I know I'm late to the party on this, but I'm 100% right! NFL is full of sh&^ on this. Same goes for Vince Young last night getting leg whipped and then helmet 2 helmet contact!
