Travel around this city and you'd think Jake Delhomme was not only a turnover machine, but responsible for the double-digit unemployment, the stalled condominium projects downtown and maybe even the relentless humidity. Radio talk-show callers stay on hold for hours to spit venom at Delhomme, the Carolina Panthers' quarterback. But walk into the Carolina locker room this week and this is what's heard: "I love that guy," said left tackle Jordan Gross, one of the highest-paid linemen in the game. "He was one of the main reasons I wanted to re-sign here. I love blocking for him and he's our quarterback." Added center Ryan Kalil: "He'll take all of (the abuse) regardless if it's his fault or not. I think that's something that's very inspiring and it's something that keeps this team together." um, there's millions of likable people in this world that can't throw a football............. that doesn't mean they should be a starting qb ................
People in the Charlotte area are HUGE fairweather fans for the most part, which is true for alot of teams in the league less than 20 years. I have been to many Panther games and all it takes is one turnover for the "loyal" fans to turn like rabid dogs on their team! It's actually comical to hear some of these rednecks going off.........
I find this hard to believe "loved in the locker room". The Panthers front office has divided this team when they gave JD all that money after that dismal playoff performance against the Cardinals. They refuse to give Julius Peppers his deal placing the franchise tag on him. After that Eagles game i bet that locker room is divided.
