Falcons defensive tackle Peria Jerry, the team's first-round draft pick from Mississippi, will be placed on injured reserve after suffering a season-ending right knee injury in Atlanta's victory over Carolina. Jerry's injury is more bone-related and not a torn ACL. He should be ready to go by next summer. Source: NFL.com
ok. this is a major issue. this kid was going to help shore up the middle of the falcons defense, which was their achilles heel last year. i'm not sure how this is going to play out but my feeling on their future success this season just went down considerably.
Trey Lewis is a good NT. He is back from season ending injury last season, is healthy, and is more than adequate to do the job. Then there's Thomas Johnson and Vance Walker behind him. Both are promising young DT's. I'm not very worried yet.
i appreciate your optimism as a falcons fan but i'm just saying ....... lewis/johnson/walker cannot replace the impact of perry. not even close in my opinion. the coaches may be able to scheme some things to hide the gaping hole in that defense but i'm not confident they can completely shield it. this same coaching staff had the same problem last season and they couldn't completely hide it and teams exploited it.
