Roughing The Passer Calls Comes As No Surprise To Patriots

The two controversial roughing-the-passer penalties assessed on the Ravens in their 27-21 loss at New England on Sunday may have been no surprise to the Patriots. New England coach Bill Belichick said Monday that Ron Winter's crew had been the most aggressive penalty-calling crew in the league the past two years, and he prepared his team for that. "To be the top penalty-calling crew over the last three years, it tells me the game's going to be tight," Belichick said. "So yeah I did mention that to the team. And they did call it tight."

Without getting a fine, yes. Yet, it still will get some research by the NFL why one crew has led the NFL in throwing the flags for 2 years.

Its bullcrap. Those were two VERY bad roughing calls, and set up 2 tds for the pats. Brady's a cat. If it had been derek anderson or marc bulger in there, there would have been NO flags. Period. This league covets a few marquee QB's. Not to mention, the pats DIDNT get the first down on the fake punt, and should have been a turnover on downs. Ravens fans, i feel for you, because you guys got screwed hardcore alllllllll day by the refs.

These calls and rules are getting ridiculous. Garrard got pile drived into the ground yesterday and no call but Brady gets brushed and it's fifteen yards.....the more they try to protect the qb's the more they get hurt.

How is it roughing the passer if the passer never hits the ground, yells at the ref to throw the flag, the ref does, and he starts laughing and smiling? Tom Brady is the opposite of the image that the NFL would like to give fans. This is a big problem in the league because the officials are throwing WAY too many flags. They don't have it in for certain teams, but they CERTAINLY favor the Patriots, and a few other teams, I'm sure, though I don't know who, exactly. Roger Goodell had better be careful, or he'll be remembered as the anti-player, pro-quarterback, kissing-Brady's-ass-and-ruining officiating, commissioner.

Two bad calls and I'd be willing to bet that if those "hits" landed on Roethlisberger, they would not have been called.

Dougerrrr posted a great example. The penalty calls on "QB Hits" have been very, very, very inconsistent, not only this season but in the past couple years.
