There, Raiders defensive end Greg Ellis said it. If the Raiders want to prove otherwise, it's on them to do it on the field starting Sunday against the Eagles. "The mood we're going to be in or should be in, right now we're kind of the laughingstock of the NFL," Ellis said Thursday. "This isn't anything new. Teams have been that way before. New England wasn't always winning Super Bowls and Dallas wasn't always the team they are. So, it goes in cycles. When you're in that down cycle, you got to fight and claw to get back out of it and that's what we're doing here right now in Oakland." Yes, the Raiders are hearing all the laughter around the league after their latest 1-4 start. Source: San Francisco Chronicle
hahahaha. that made me laugh. seriously, though, everyone is acting like the raiders are by far the worst team in the nfl but i think the raiders are just part of a large pool of teams who are clearly not as good as the rest of the league. I count 9 teams that are way below everyone else and the Raiders are just part of that group. A few of those 9 teams will probably pull themselves into respectability by the end of the year..................... I wouldn't guess the Raiders will be one of them though.
The thing about this 'downcycle' is that it won't end until Al Davis is pushing up the daisies - kind of ironic really, like the Raiders are the Daisies.
I don't think they're the worst team in the NFL, but the dysfunction (the Cable mess) and the fact that they've stunk for a while and haven't really shown a lot of improvement is what makes them the laughingstock. As far as this season, imo there are teams that are clearly worse, Rams being one of them.
Other than Russell, Cable, the OL and Davis the Raiders would have a pretty nice team. Their DL is having a good year, LBs are better than the Colts. Huff is having a good year. Asomugha is a stud. They have talent at role positions. All they need is good ownership, coaching, and some OT's that can pass block
