David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune reports a source close to running back Cedric Benson later related to illustrate the root of his bad feelings toward the Bears front office, he was crying because he was upset the team drafted him at all. The source who had spoken to Benson on draft day said the running back immediately feared the Bears wouldn't offer him a contract as long or as rich as what he felt he deserved, a bone of contention that ultimately would lead to a 36-day holdout. That initial reaction by Benson suggested, in his heart, he never truly wanted to be a Bear until it was clear they were cutting him.

    What a bunch of BS...

Sorry, Ced. It was always about your immaturity. Besides, if anyone wanted to believe this crap, what was your excuse after you got the big bucks & pissed away the opportunity?

This is news? Benson never wanted to play for the Bears? Sorry but Benson is not the victom here. Three run ins with the law in one offseason, come on, he's got nobody to blame but himself. Not to mention that he couldn't handle being the starter when Thomas Jones was traded to the Jets. It never looked like he game 100% when he was with the Bears. Hell, when Benson would get stopped at the line of scrimmage, I thought I was watching him run into a brick wall.

is that why he cried on his way to the podium?

Seriously, if you don't want to play for somebody, just don't show up to work then. Then again, thats kind of what Benson did when he was the starter in Chicago anyway. He would show up to work but not be ready to work.

Hey, if Benson can talk about the past, so can I. A Cedric Benson thread is a great way to get me to respond.

Benson had no Burst in Chicago his legs looked dead and he wasn't focused enough to handle the starting role. Becoming a free agent revived him and now he looks like he was at UT.

benson may have suddenly become a top back out of nowhere and ripped off the bust label from his jersey, but I still don't like the guy and never will, not just because he plays for a division opponent.

also, by the way, just an interesting footnote, the first 7 topstories on the site's front page have question marks at the end of the titles, more than half of them are about coaches.

Not really out of nowhere. He was good at the end of last season...

    Yes, he was...

I was actually looking forward to the upcoming year cuz he started to 'come alive' so to speak. Really thought he might be something to watch. Of course then he screwed it up after he knew he was on double (not) secret probation.

Then again, this OL we have now wouldn't have him running so great...:icon_rolleyes:

He was a known commodity at the end of last season. He rushed for something like 350 yards over the last three games and was projected to do well this season...not as well as he is doing, but he is one of the last backs in the league that doesn't share/split carries.

    That's a given...

They're also working over Cutler pretty damn good also. :icon_rolleyes:

The media has already been circling Forte & Cutler's life raft.
