Once Again Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell Refuses To Blame Himself

Paul Gutierrez of the Sacramento Bee reports Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell still refused to take ownership for his poor play that put the Raiders in that early hole en route to the worst home loss in team history. Russell committed three turnovers – a fumble on the game's first play and an interception that set the Jets up at Oakland's 4-yard line both times, and a pick in the Jets' end zone. But to hear Russell tell it, his receivers were at fault. And when the coach said Russell seemed "out of sorts" from the start – "the first play of the game he could not get the formation lined up the right way," Cable added – Russell disagreed. "The first interception was a matter of a guy coming across my face and getting to the spot," he said. "I tried to get it down but it was too late. "As far as the second (pick), I thought I gave the guy a chance to make a play on the ball … had a 50-50 chance."

Dude he is right. its not like he told barnes to get ran over so he could get sacked sure he should of hanged on to the ball but cmon. One of those interceptions was on him but i think he was trying to throw it away in the ground he didnt see the linebacker. Watkins should of fought for that ball or atleast try to knock it out of his hands he needs receivers its bullcrap that he gets all the blame. Matt ryan had roddy white, flacco to mason, even sanchez has braylon edwards now veteran receivers.

I refuse to standby and let you make excuses for Russell Prime, sure his receivers aren't the best but seriously that guy is as bad if not worse than any QB I've seen called a 'professional'. Footwork, vision, mechanics, intellect - he has none of that.

Nobody said that he was perfect but a QB like him needs time to develop everyone knows he was raw coming out of college but he had the talent to be a pro. ALL im saying is this is his second year starting full time he can still work on footwork, vision, amd his mechanics smarts well i guess that comes with being comfortable with the playbook the dude is young and needs time. It would help if he had protection and reliable receivers. No one regresses that bad he was improving last season instead of giving him something to work with they give him rookies how many NFL teams you know Start Rookies at Receiver?NONE. If Trent Dilfer could play inthis league why not JaMarcus. Seeing Gradkowski play just proved to me its not his fault.

I totally agree with you double H. Some people lose sight of it being a team sport. I know we have been bad for along time and fans want to win now but they forget we havent had a good coach since gruden left, they blame a really a second year quarterback are you kidding me hes the reason for our problems give me a freaking break. Weve had Collins ,brooks,Culpepper, mcown, experienced QBs that blew in oakland why would it be different with a young QB its freaking ridiculous. I think Russell got benched because the fans were booing heavily and cable did not want russell to lose his cool and give the fans what they want a weak arm QB. Some Raider fans need to pull their head out of their butt and really boo the guys who are at fault and that Davis and Cable.

How can you blame it all on Russell, he is not the one that drafted himself, he is not the one that has not benched himself.

I don't care if you are a terrible quarterback, you have to take the blame for losses. That's what good leaders do. You won't make it in this league buddy.

Dude being a young QB how can you take blame for losses when there hasnt been any winning. I mean what is there to compare it to its not like hes been winning games by himself.

    86WARD -

The Raiders have had PLENTY of opportunities to get players around Russell...however, there comes a time where Russell has to show some kind of potential, some kind of leadership and some kind of ownership of the Raiders offense...he's arguably done none of that. Both the Raiders and Russell are at fault. I'm not buying that Russell is putting forth his best effort either.

Sad and Terrible... hopefully we can draft a QB next year.

THe Raiders just need to draft the best player right now. If they reach for a QB that's not a guarantee, it's going to be more of the same. Take the sure thing...
