Raiders coach Tom Cable said he is impressed by the way JaMarcus Russell has responded this week. "The fact that he's had a chance to look at it after Sunday and take some responsibility for those kinds of things, it just adds to his motivation," Cable said. "He's got to get better." Russell has shown signs of maturing in other areas, as well. Backup quarterback Charlie Frye said Russell was at work Wednesday morning at 6:30, earlier than he has arrived at any point this season, by Frye's estimation. "For what had happened to him and for his attitude to get there that early Wednesday morning is impressive," Frye said. "That's him taking the first step to fix what's going on."

Impressed that he showed up at practice?

He was freaking at practice at 6:30am because he wanted to make sure he got in line for the scrambled eggs and bacon. That crap goes fast on Wednesday Mornings...

WTF...impressed? Really? Did Al tell you to say that?

Not to give Russell any back up, being I've seldom seen him play, but playing QB in the NFL is a nut buster. The ideal scenario is for these young guys is to play back up for a couple of years or more to a decent experienced QB, and learn the game. Instead they get drafted high, and thrown into the mix in a sink or swim situation. Some survive, but others don't. Destroying these guys self confidence isn't going to help them be a leader on the team. I think the year Brady had behind Bledsoe gave him a chance to learn the game, and prepared him to be a starter.

Solid take Dawg and can't disagree with your points. However, it is possible that Jamarcus was one hell of a college QB and just not cut out to be an NFL QB. He made a living escaping pass rushes and launching howitzers at LSU but has learned he can't outrun linebackers and some linemen in the NFL. The dude is overweight, slow and sees his team's shortcomings as everyone else's fault, not his.

How many running QB's make it in the NFL vs drop back QB's? Pretty dismal, yet Teams continue to draft these guys. P. Manning and Brady are the two best in the NFL, and they sure aren't out there running. Many times I've seen these guys complete passes at the last second before the rush hits them long after other "feet" guys have bailed out. Moving in the pocket is much better than moving out of the pocket. If I'm going to draft a QB to lead my team, I'm looking at brains as hard as any other quality. You've got to be able to study the game to know it as good or better than your Offensive cordinator. He's not out on the field when you have to correctly audible to counter a Defensive scheme. Manning/Brady are the best at this as we know, because they studied film more than any one else, and can think quickly on their feet. Dedication/hard work is a must. You've got to be as hard a worker on the team as anyone else. Overweight is a joke. Brady was the opposite. 6'4" 190# beanpole out of Michigan. He knew that wouldn't cut it in the NFL, and he built himself up to around 235 now without being fat. Hardwork. So how does Russell fall into all of this?:icon_cheesygrin:

Per every requirement as you outlined, he absolutely doesn't fit into any of it. Thus my assertion that Russell will not fulfill the expectations of Al Davis and the Raiders organization and was just a damn good college quarterback.

Big F'ing deal he showed up at 630! Do work man! Do work. If this guy could shed defenders like he does responsibility we might win a few more games. For such a big dude he sure goes down easy. Where's Jeff Garcia?

Don't you think some of these College studs think that all they have to do is show up, and every thing will be fine. They are drafted high, get the big salary, and their egos are pumped into believing the NFL will bow before them. I see why Belichick hates dealing with #1 draft picks, and signing them to huge contracts without a track record in the NFL. He'd rather pay the money for a free agent, who has proven he can play at the caliber needed in the NFL.

Haha, I figured he punched the quarterbacks coach or something. That would impress Cable.
