The Eagles are an elite defensive team

Injuries have forced me to sell.

 

they are average in their ability to force punts and prevent scoring. they are very good at creating turnovers. overall, they are 'good' but i consider elite to be top 5 and they are not.

 

When healthy there elite but right now there bad

They are a good unit that can play lights out for a few games, but they can also get lit the heck up. Not elite even when 100%, but still a good unit

 

True but alot of the time its also our offense putting our defense in really crapty situations. Like against the saints this year they kept giving the ball up on our side of the field. Its hard to play well when the happens. The eagles overall are a very inconsistant team offense and defense.

 

Therefor not elite

They don't do it week to week, year to year - I sell but it wouldn't be difficult to argue the opposite either.

 

They werent elite with Jim Johnson either

 

Now that i think about it you cant call them elite because like you guys said year in year out makes you elite. In 2006 a old grandma could have run threw our run defense.

 

I voted sell, but their value is so low, that maybe I hold on for a few more weeks and then sell? lol...

 

I gotta sell this. One week they are kicking ass, taking no prisoners. Then one week they are getting torched.

 

The injurys really blow this year especially on defense. We have had every linebacker miss a game and a corner put on ir and one suspended for 4 weeks. Atleast the 2 starters are healthy kind of. Its hard to be consistant when things like that happen.

They had a down year here and there, but the defense was top tier almost all of the time. Give me a break.

Just one stat line I found: From 2000-07, Johnson's units rank tied for first in the NFL with 342 sacks, second in the league in 3rd down efficiency (34.3%) and red zone touchdown percentage (43.0%), and fourth in fewest points allowed (17.6 per game).

 

Oh wow, ELITE. That's setting the bar high. I think the Eagles have a very good defense.

 

Good yes, elite no. I think Pittsburg has the only truely elite defense now. IMO to be an elite unit, you have to be game in, game out, year in year out.

 

I'm surprised we are doing as well as we are on Def with the decimated LBing core coupled with the losses of Dawk and JJ but no we are not elite
