An NFL committee on concussions led by former coach and broadcaster John Madden has discussed banning helmets in practices and changing or removing face masks. Both moves could reduce hits to the head and stop tacklers from leading with their heads. "How much of this will happen we don't know yet," an NFL spokesman says. "It's all in the discussion stage." wow. this is rather drastic. from a moral standpoint, it may be the right thing to do. from a viewer's standpoint, this would enormously affect the entertainment value of the game. the speed and intensity of the game would be gone and i would venture to say the league would slowly lose up to half of their followers. it would take some time, maybe 10 years, but the league would become a shell of it's former self.
To say it in Vince Lombardis words: ""Football is not a contact sport, it's a collision sport - dancing is a contact sport."
