After the Chargers’ 43-14 win over Kansas City, linebacker Shaun Phillips clarified his role, to ESPN.com, in the verbal spat with Josh McDaniels. He apologized to the Denver coach for his words, which he said were misinterpreted. Phillips said he wasn’t trying to threaten McDaniels. “I said 'We’re going to beat that (rear end),’ †Phillips said. “I meant it by our team, not me. I meant we’re going to win. In no way was I threatening or challenging him personally. I’m sorry if he felt that way. I respect him. It’s up to him to accept my apology.†Source: ESPN.com
Is there any other organization whose member's word are misinterpreted as much as the NFL? And since when does "we're" mean or sound like "I"?
um, mcdaniels said phillips' comment was, "I'm going to kick your freaking ass", which is a lot more threatening than, "we're going to beat that ass" ................. oh, well, at this point, it's just mincing words. the chargers kicked their butt on the field and now control the division.
Which sounds more logical? Why would Shaun Phillips threaten him? To be it seems more logical that he said "we're going to beat that ass". I think McDaniels probably misheard what was said or wasn't really paying attention.
Ummm... did you honestly just say that (never mind believe it)?? Have you ever played sports dude? Is it more logical that a player, known for his big mouth, hyped up before a game and very possibly on steroids (oh right, there's no steroids in the NFL... or professional wrestling) would start trash talking a head coach using an expletive in his repetoire or that the head coach would trash talk the player. I just don't see any player running up to a head coach to say, "we're going to beat that ass" when he could say, "We're (or I'm) going to kick your freaking butt." Trust me, this one is on Phillips.
No where in my post did I even imply that Phillips didn't start the crap talking. All I said was I don't think he was threatening him, just talking crap, I think it's beyond ludicrous that McDaniels would take anything said as a threat. Again what reason would he have to threaten him? Players talk crap all the time, especially Phillips. Although he has a lot to learn from your own pass rushing LB. Oh and I've played soccer, Football, and Baseball. Basketball as well but not on a team just with a bunch of friends.
