NFL Could Expand Schedule, Games Thursdays, Saturdays All Season

The NFL is toying with the idea of expanding its schedule from 16 games to 18 games -- which could mean some huge changes for TV. Among the changes under discussion are playing games on Thursdays and Saturdays for the entire season -- not just at the end of the season, and playing at least eight games a year outside the US. Cramming 32 more games a year into TV schedules will be a challenge -- as will deciding whether to cut the pre-game schedule by two or expand the season by two weeks. "I don't see them starting [the season] before Labor Day," says one programming exec who asked not to be identified.

Thursdays sound OK, but won't college sports take a swipe back at the NFL by playing Sundays?

18 is a lot of games to play, then if you make the playoffs if you go to the SB that's at least another 3 games, could be 4 games.

If they do it (and I hope they don't), they better expand rosters, because a lot more guys will start getting hurt.

Wouldn't mind more Thursday Night games though. Saturdays should stay with College football, no reason to throw in another game there.

They don't need NFL on Saturday every week and 16 games is enough. Actually, I think the schedule is just right the way it is. I really hope they don't go thru with this. :icon_rolleyes:

Damn it. I already have to watch this offense 16 times a year. I don't know if I can take two more games. Seriously, I would be for one more game, so there are no 8-8 seasons. Stretching the games over 3 days every week kind of ruins the feel of Sundays though. I'm for Sunday only, except for Thanksgiving day, add one real game, drop one preseason game. League prob won't like it because some teams will have more home games but you could alternate it.

I can tolerate the Thursday games, even though it took me a while to get used. I know one thing, I don't wanna see the Bears on Thursday nights anymore.

I'll never get used to games, starting at 2:30 am local time

I guess that means that you don't like Sunday or Monday night games, either.

eh, i like a more spread out schedule so that it's easier to watch more games. however, i think the nfl offices will have trouble getting the teams to agree to this because they don't like thursday games or the overseas games.

I agree with Boltz and that big sexy guy about a few things.

I can wait til near the end of the season for Saturday games, but Thursdays would be cool.

Also they will have to expand the roster.

Must spread some rep and all that.

I like the way it's done now, and I agree with Boltz that they will have to increase the size of the squads because of additional injuries. Wouldn't that be a heavy financial responsibility for the teams to handle with only two more games of additional income.

I do like them, but only randomly watch them bc it means no sleep for me.

I don't like the regular Thursday games, bc teams didn't get enough rest and time to prepare for the opponent.
