Oakland coach Tom Cable said on a conference call with Denver reporters this morning that Charlie Frye will be the Raiders quarterback Sunday against the Broncos. That means JaMarcus Russell, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2007, has again been demoted. Russell was benched last month for Bruce Gradkowski, who is now out with MCL sprains in both knees. Source: Denver Post
Dude, I wouldn't play the Broncos D. It is an extremely risky move, which is either gonna work or not. Right now, I'm very happy in that the organization has given up on Russell, and that Frye is the QB. I am praying for a QB competition next year with Frye, Gradkowski and Losman.
I'm not quite sure that I am seeing the risk in this move, were talking a top 5 defense vs the leagues 31st offense.
You must look at what the team has done the last couple of weeks under the new QB: Bengals D had 6 points Cowboys D had 9 Steelers had 2 At the end of the first half vs the Skins, Raiders put up 10 points, no ints, no sacks, and one fumble. Fantasy wise, when Russell is not in the game, the Raiders offense is decent and will put up a fight. That said, I would not bank on the Broncos to give you 15+ points. I wouldn't even put money on them. Raiders are a whole different team when Russell is not the QB
Denver's D has the highest team D projections of the week and they rank 6 overall this year in my league, and they are playing an Oakland team starting their 3rd string QB. How is that extremely risky? All that was with Gradkowski who was playing well so it's a moot point. You're starting Frye. Also, no one is banking on anything, I just said I hope it happens.
Look at the numbers I posted. Raiders are a different team without Russell. I think that the Defense will do hella good, or hella bad. That's all. However I do not know your other options, so I won't advise on who to play.
Frye is better than Russell. If Russell was starting it'd be a no brainer but with Frye you don't know what will happen, I can't blame you for playing them but I wouldn't expect 15+ points.
