The Saints have re-signed FB Kyle Eckel, a league source told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora. Eckel first joined the Saints on Oct. 29 and played in five games, starting once before being released Dec. 8. Eckel has 175 yards and two touchdowns in 22 career games with the Saints, Eagles, Patriots and Dolphins. Source: NFL.com
The Saints were using TE's at the fullback position until Shockey got hurt. Now that they are getting short on TE's, they need the fullback Eckel back.
