Hoping to cash in on the finest season of his three-year career, Steve Smith, through his agent Ralph Cindrich, told the Daily News he's informed the Giants that the receiver wants a contract extension and they plan to press the issue after the season is over. The 24-year-old is signed through 2010 and might still be three years from unrestricted free agency. But after a franchise-record 90 catches for 1,093 yards and six touchdowns so far this season for Smith, Cindrich said he believes the Giants will take care of his client, and he said that Smith wants to be in New York for a very long time. "He wants to be a part of it," Cindrich said. "He's with an organization that can win. He's got a great quarterback. You always have a chance to go all the way and he can hit all his goals there. I know there are some issues up in the air, but if you have a chance to lock guys up, you lock guys up. "Especially with a player like this." Source: New York Daily News
