Asked whether the Raiders would be playoff-bound if they had received an average or better performance from quarterback JaMarcus Russell, head coach Tom Cable quietly and succinctly made the strongest statement of the afternoon: "Without even asking that question, you know that we would have." He balanced his remarks by calling Russell "a really, really classy kid" and pointing out that Vince Young, the first quarterback drafted in the year before the Raiders took Russell, had lost his job, sat out roughly a year and returned as a new man. But the message wasn't muddled at all: Cable could not win consistently and nurture Russell at the same time and to prove what he and this Raiders team can do together, he'd rather trust a third-string quarterback.

I didn't think you could actually stuff Russell's big butt under a bus like that but Cable did pretty good job.

That's true, though they did go 2-2 with Gradkowski, imagine if he had been playing from the get go.......maybe they'd be 7-8?

I think it does make a big difference when you go from having your QB completing only 35% of his passes, to somewhere around 60%

Well, I don't think we would have been a playoff team, I do think we could have been 7-9 or 8-8 with Gradkowski starting all year, and avoided all those blowouts we suffered. Hopefully we'll be rid of Russell during the offseason, unlikely, but hopefully.

well not playoffs but i think we might have an extra win or two if that worthless sack of crap was not eating up space in hte backfield most the year

haha hilarious he sees the writing on the wall, i guess his play calling would of been better and bush would of ran for a thousand yards if russell wasnt starting, its bullcrap. if russell couldnt throw why keep droping him back 25 times a game. yeah russell freaking sucked but the offense would of been the same we would have maybe 2 more wins Cable needs to start blaming it on himself that he cant coach call plays or even motivate a team to win straight games. whos to blame for the cleveland game cable blows, russell blows, and gannon was right we need to blow it up and start all over, heck al davis and his my way or the highway attitude just turn the reigns to some one more competent and live your golden years as far away as you can. heck this waste of year.
