The Jaguars will announce later Tuesday that Jack Del Rio will remain the team's coach, the Florida Times-Union reports. Citing three sources, the Times-Union reports that the Jaguars never intended to fire Del Rio, who had been linked to the USC job left vacant by Pete Carroll's departure to the Seattle Seahawks. However, Del Rio denied that report when he arrived at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium on Tuesday morning. Del Rio also denied that USC gave him a contract. Source: NFL.com
Good news, it would have been short sighted to get rid of JDR this year. He and Gene Smith are in the middle of a re-building project and patience is required. Another year without playoffs next year and it will be a different story.
To be honest, it seems like that under Del Rio the Jaguars have been rebuilding forever. It's pretty obvious he isn't ever going to get them over the hump in the road that's stopping them from achieving anything.
of course they're retaining him. they can't afford to fire him or they would owe him $15 mill plus have to hire another coach. and that organization isn't exactly oozing money.
