NFL, Players Union Donating $1 Million Toward Haiti Relief

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Jan 15, 2010.

  1. The NFL and the players' union are contributing $1 million toward relief efforts in Haiti. The American Red Cross and Partners In Health will receive $500,000 each. The NFL and its network broadcast partners will also run messages before and during this weekend's playoff games to promote donations for the earthquake-battered country.

How do you truly know where the money will actually end up when giving to any organization?

You don't. But I remember the money that was donated for 911, and the Red Cross decided that NYC got enough funds and they would use the rest the way they saw fit. I think that is total bullcrap.

Are you sure that was with money people donated specifically for 9/11, or just general donations that got used elsewhere? I donated to the Red Cross yesterday for a specific Haiti fund. I'd hate to think that they would have a specific fund and then use it elsewhere.

I can clearly recall when it was on the news that the Red Cross had decided that they had given enough of the money risen to NYC, and that the rest of the funds would be spent on what they saw fit, I was pissed then and still am. I have never really been a big fan of the Red Cross anyway since my dad told me when he came home from WWII, the Red Cross was there with coffee and donuts, that was donated, and they had to pay if they wanted some.

But to get back on track and not derail this thread, the point is actually 1 mil ain't crap for the NFL, the cheap SOB's

eh, the nfl and nflpa don't have image problems they're trying to fix ........... :icon_cheesygrin:

a million is pretty weak though. hell, the league has collected at least a half a million just in player fines this year and a half a mill from the nflpa equals about $300 per player .......... pretty weak.

Giving is giving, but they do have the ability to give more. I gave my money to the YELE foundation, a foundation partially ran by Wyclef Jean who is a native Haitian,

If the NFL actually wanted to help they'd give 10 mil... They have more than enough to share. But this is just a simple gesture. 1 million for the NFL is like 10 bucks for the average joe.
