Perry Fewell Won't Make Any Changes To The Giants Coaching Staff

  1. Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell has "a lot of confidence" in the defensive coaches he inherited when he joined the Giants, and other than hiring a new defensive line coach, he has no plans to make any other changes to the Giants' coaching staff. "I have a lot of confidence in the staff that's presently here, both secondary coaches have a Super Bowl ring, our linebackers coach is well known and an excellent linebackers coach." "So we just want to fill that defensive line coaching position with another knowledgeable person that can help us get over the top." Fewell said.

Since when has any co-ordinator had the authority to hire/fire?

When they come in as OC/DC, they get to decide who to have on their staff under them....the coach/GM is the one who hires and fires, but generally most OC/DC will have ideas of whether they want people to come in that they have worked with before (same as happens under a HC but on a smaller scale). Often, they are happy enough to accept the current assistant coaches.
