NFLPA's DeMaurice Smith Says Owners Are More Intent On Lockout

  1. The specter of labor strife cast a shadow over this week's buildup to Super Bowl XLIV Wednesday when Players' Association executive director DeMaurice Smith told USA TODAY that NFL owners are not only girding for a 2011 lockout but intimated that they were intent on breaking the players' resolve. "The simple fact is they have engaged in a concerted course of conduct where anybody looking at it will see that they have done more to prepare themselves to not play football than to play football." Smith said at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center, site of the Super Bowl media center. "On the one hand, you have a collective bargaining process that is designed to have two equal parties negotiating over issues, on that side you have concerted action designed to severely restrict and critically enhance your bargaining leverage."

To be honest, it sounds like there's more issues between the owners than owners vs players. The profit sharing is by far the biggest sticky point (Thanks Jerry Jones).
