He didn't play on that 49ers team, he was on IR, and pretty much anyone from the Bears D that game could have been the MVP and nobody would have blinked. Randle's sack numbers playing mostly at DT and on some very bad defensive teams are staggering.

I feel about Dent the way I feel about Jackson, they were very very good players in their time but not HOF caliber.

If you have Rickey Jackson in the HOF then Randy Gradishar without a doubt should be there. It just relies upon the flavour of the week when the voting takes place, and with New Orleans being in the Superbowl was a big boost in voting.

The voting totally depends on the mood of the media...it's horse crap. Can you tell the story of the NFL without mentioning Richard Dent? No. He should be in.

The people who vote for this stuff don't know crap about the game.

    Mike Ditka said this yesterday.

Only surprise was Jackson. I'm really surprised Carter didn't make it. Great receiver.

Jackson was just a sympathy candidate from Katrina. Just the same as the Saints are in the SB and will most likely win it for the same reason.
Richard Dent has been denied for the 7th time in 8 years and is tied for 5th with Randle in all time sacks plus has a 2 rings. But the Bears have the most HOF members of all teams so that makes it tougher for all future Bear players.

    1. Bruce Smith 200.0
    2. Reggie White 198.0
    3. Kevin Greene 160.0
    4. Chris Doleman 150.5
    5. John Randle 137.5
    Richard Dent 137.5
    7. Lawrence Taylor 132.5
    Leslie O'Neal 132.5
    9. Michael Strahan 129.5
    10. Rickey Jackson 128.0

Yeah, I saw what Ditka said on comcast sports net last night and he's 100% right.

If the voters do in fact use the excuse that the Bears do have 26 HOFers, thats a crock of crap excuse. It shouldn't matter how many HOFers one franchise has. If the guy has the numbers and is deserving, then he should be in.

one of the media member voters was quoted as saying he would have gotten in if not for jerry rice being on the same ballot. they have trouble voting for 2 players at the same position apparently.

yes, rickey was fun to watch.

i wrote an internet article a couple of years ago regarding the HOF snubs and Dawson, Dent, and Carter were at the top of my list THEN and they're still not in. Yes, it's a shame.

During my research when writing the article, the one thing that shocked me is how subjective the system is. The process for the system is that one of the voting media members representing the city in which the player played the bulk of his career actually makes a sales presentation to the voting committee. Therefore, if the media member from, say, Minnesota, does a crapty job of presenting Cris Carter as a HOF player but a media member from another city is a great salesman/presenter but has a less-worthy player, he will still be able to 'sell' the committee on voting for his less-worthy player.

I don't know...if you had to pick a Vikings player...would you pick Cris Carter or John Randle. I'd probably go Randle...

There is no way that Ricky Jackson should be in the HOF and to get in while guys like Dent and Carter is a joke. Saints fans will say that he is 10th all time in sacks but that is a stat that was not kept up with till 1982. While he lost one year of stats because of that there are a host of players that lost a lot more with some that were never even counted. He was never the best are even the second best player as his position. He did not make or even receive a vote for the All-80's team. For a while he was the best player on a bad team but that should not get you in. In his 15 years of playing he had double digits sacks just six times. Ware in his five years of playing has done it four time already, in 1/3 the amount of years he already has 1/2 as many sacks. He was about the only player that spent most of his time with the Saints that they could get into the HOF and the voters got caught up in all of the Saints hype and threw them a bone.
