Saints running back Reggie Bush's base salary is scheduled to jump from $2.585 million in 2009 to $8 million in 2010, then $11.8 million in 2011, with bonuses thrown in each year. Obviously, that's a little more than he would be worth on the open market, considering he hasn't turned into the next Barry Sanders or Marshall Faulk. But at the same time, the Saints probably can't strong-arm Bush into taking a pay cut, because he isn't afraid of being released into free agency. Source: The Times-Picayune
I don't think he'll get anywhere close to 8 million on the FA market either...if I was in his shoes I;d take the pay cut and stay with the Super Bowl champions. Payton seems to love him and I wouldn't doubt that he'd get better compensated staying in NO, even with a paycut, than he would elsewhere. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
i dont see why taking a pay cut is such a big deal. whats the difference between $8million and $6million? and he is extremely marketable he could have many more endorsement deals and make more money
