Fourteen NFL seasons have come and gone without a single game played in the greater Los Angeles area. But by the looks of it, it could be just one more year until the City of Angels is again a part of North America's premier professional sports league. Behind the efforts of Ed Roski and Majestic Realty, and with their "shovel-ready" proposed $800 million stadium in the City of Industry, Los Angeles leaders are resolute in the feeling that, finally, they've hit the home stretch in getting the NFL back in the nation's second-largest media market. "I strongly believe an NFL franchise will play in Los Angeles for the 2011 season," said Majestic vice president John Semcken. "I've been working on this for 14 years, and it's been a long road. I know we're very, very close." Source: Boston Globe
I've said this before, The only NFL team that would THRIVE in Los Angeles is the Raiders. HANDS DOWN! Look at the Lakers-- They've soldout almost every home game this season. (HUGE fanbase) Look at the Dodgers-- They're doing pretty well (Huge fanbase) Look at the Angels-- They sellout ALOT of games (CRAZY FANBASE!!) <---- My team!! Look at the Clippers-- NO sellouts!! (Small fanbase) Look at the La Kings-- Rarely sellout (Small fanbase) Look at the La Galaxy-- Doing pretty bad ect.. What i'm saying is this, If Al Davis snaps out of his senile ways (which he won't), he should seriously consider this move. There are MORE Raider fans in Los Angeles than the Bay Area. I'm not saying that EVERY game would sellout, but blackouts would never happen if this team came to LA. (That's a fact.)
Nothing....I am sure the Jags would stay in the AFC South.....just like the Chiefs are in the AFC West.....even though they are closer to Tennessee than Oakland.
Don't count out teams like the Chargers or Bills (when old man Rich Wilson keels over) to be courted by LA either. There are several teams who would jump at the free money LA would give up just to land them there.
Los Angeles Jaguars. Doesn't sound right. What could you call a team in LA? The LA plastic faces. I don't know...
I think pretty much any team that moves to LA would have to change their name with the exception of the Chargers who were the Los Angeles Chargers at one time. The Jaguars would be a stretch in LA. The Bills or Vikings? No dice.
So there would be blackouts... unless they cover some seats with tarps as they do in Jacksonville. I love your "fact" about something still completely hypothetical.
That is Southern California. :icon_cheesygrin: **********Automerged Doublepost********** L.A. Nip/Tuckers
Raiders are not moving to SoCal in 2011, or anytime soon. They have extended their lease in Oakland till 2014 and have publicly stated their intentions to work with Oakland in creating a new stadium. FYI, the LA Galaxy have a strong fan base and sell out the Home Depot Center frequently (not to be racist but isn't it ironic how the place where one can find many mexicans is called Home Depot Center?)
