Rob Stroope of the Dallas Morning News reports the Cowboys will not cut ties with wide receiver Roy Williams. "Jerry Jones has to pay him $9.5 million here in March," Stroope said. "It was easier to cut Terrell Owens last year because Jerry owed him no money. With Williams, that $9.5 million is guaranteed. He's not going to give up on this deal and still pay the guy that kind of cash." Source: Dallas Morning News
Well that just sucks!!! :icon_evil: Even though I pretty much knew Jerry wouldn't release him because it would mean him admitting he is an idiot...this news still ruins my entire day!!!
Did you actually watch the games this year? Roy Williams is garbage. He does not know how to run good routes and drops the ball when it is thrown to him. ANYONE on our roster could replace him and his production. He is being paid like a top receiver IN THE LEAGUE...and the way he played being paid like that is total garbage. I believe Ogletree should be given every change to take his spot. In 2007 when we went 13-3 Crayton put up the numbers Roy Williams did this year and that was without dropping as many balls...but Crayton wasn't being paid 9 flippin million dollars.
Well lets see Miles Austin was an undrafted free agent and he is the #1 guy so I'm sure a 7th round pick can replace him easily not to mention the big save in money you would get by getting rid of that bum. DU'H
Ya, because Patrick Crayton in the time he spent as a starter sure did set the world on fire. If Patrick Crayton is so great as a #2 WR then why did we give up all those pick for Williams? Williams has played like crap since coming to Dallas, but he has torn in up in this league before, and has proven he play WR at a high level. What has the rest of the roster minus Austin showed. Crayton is a good slot WR, crapty starter, Hurd is a ST player who can chip in a play on offense her and there, and while Ogletree has shown that he may have some upside, he still hasnt done crap. Cutting Williams would be goobered because there is no one on our roster that has proven to be a capable starting WR, with the exeption of crayton and thats debatable. If Williams loses his job, let it be because someone out performed him
Trust me...i'm not a big Crayton fan. I'm a bigger Crayton fan than I am a Roy Williams fan. Why did we give up so many picks for Williams? GOOD DAMN QUESTION! Jerry made a HUGE mistake. Just because we did give up so many picks and money to him doesn't validate the trade. He had one really good year...ONE! Plus he played with the Lions...who were always trailing...so in turn were always throwing the ball around the yard...which gives a WR like Roy empty numbers. Roy was and always will be a HUGE mistake. Hurd is not the answer and I don't think Crayton is the answer. But trading those picks and giving him that money was definately not the answer either. I'm amazed at how many Cowboy fans i've come across that don't feel the same way...the proof is in the pudding.
This guy thinks like Jerry Jones does...irrationally. Roy Williams had one above average statistical year and he thinks he "tore the league up". Too bad Jerry feels the same way. Roy Williams is complete garbage...the sooner the Cowboys can get rid of him the better. Unless he can learn how to be a disciplined route runner he will always blow.
Joey Galloway was a mistake, so what we moved on. If Williams doesn't take huge strides to improve he too will be ancient history.
And trust me, Im no Williams fan. and "tore it up".....ok that was a huge overstatement, I admit that....... However, I just dont see it as something we can move on from now, we are thin at that spot already and unless we have a move whether it be a draft pick or something else, we cant afford to give up on it yet. I would much rather have someone beat him out than have to hand the job over to Crayton or Ogletree. If he lose's his job, his career here is over. If he doesnt produce, his career here is over. The money aspect of it freaking sucks, and its gonna force our hand either way, but Jones paid Owens to go away and took a cap hit, if he has to he'll do the same to Williams. As it stands, I think Williams is our only shot to get solid #2 WR production on our roster
I agree with what your saying...it's hard to give up on that size of a contract so quickly. Based on Roy's production last year I think Crayton or Ogletree could of put up just as good numbers or better because they run better routes and would of caught more balls that he dropped. I just can't wait until this dude is out. If he steps it up and produces I'll say i was wrong...but unfortunately I don't think I will be.
