Cowboys Likely To Find An Appealing Running Back In The Draft

Discussion in 'Dallas Cowboys' started by BigBlueBruiser, Feb 22, 2010.

  1. Gerry Fraley, of The Dallas Morning News, speculates the Dallas Cowboys are likely to find an appealing running back in the 2010 NFL Draft. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said late in the 2009 season that the team must "keep piling them up" in the backfield because of the short career span some running backs have. Fraley writes that the Cowboys could also find a well-rounded fullback such as Philadelphia's Leonard Weaver as an upgrade.

Not a bad philosophy at all but it looks like it could be hinting that Barber's time is up and they might be ready move on without him.

Although from what i heard this year it seems like there is not much dept at RB so good luck with that

If this is true...I would hope Jerry trades Barber or Choice to get what he can for one of them. I would prefer to get rid of Barber.

I dunno if Barber would carry any trading value though specially since he has started to show more wear&tear on his knees and i don't think anyone would want to be paying Barber's salary when he is no longer what he used to be and lost his job to Felix Jones, and Choice.

Jerry Jones should also be careful with Felix Jones cause as explosive as Jones is he hasn't showed that he can stay healthy for an entire season, that could be where he is getting this 3 backs philosophy

I agree with everything you said...but Barber's value is at least higher now than it will be next off season or later. Get rid of him for as high as you can. I'm not saying we can get a 1 or 2 for Barber...but get what you can. Then you still have Jones, Choice and whatever back through the draft. I would be very happy with that.

i dont agree with messing with the three RBs we have...........barber need to sit until the second half so he dont get hurt as much and let Choice and Jones tire the Def out

blount was far and away the best RB in mobile, pretty sure choice was the senior bowl MVP wasnt he?

blount is a physical runner like barber, they dont seem to have any strong attachments to barber at this point

i mean, it makes sense. all blount did was deck a guy talking some crap, i say hout deserved it for freaking with a giant thug butt dude

Dont worry cause Weaver is sure to get signed to a long deal now

Well I'm amazed that a i can actually get along with one cowboy fan ha ha ha!
And as much as it would be beneficial for the cowboys to part ways with Barber and try to get some value for him. His large contract that JJ gave him will make other teams be more careful about a trade since that contract was done assuming that Barber was gonna be the featured back and now Barber is more of a 3rd down and goal line RB.

thats true his huge contract will make it hard for JJ to convince some one to take him

We've been straying from bad character guys for the most part since 2008's debacle, however we did draft Hodge last year who had some questions, so I dont think they will immediately cross Blount of the board

Blount runs like MBIII but has the size to do so effectively for a lot longer than Barber. His character stuff is going to scare off a lot of teams, yeah, but if he goes somewhere with a coach that can keep his head right, he's going to end up being a major steal for that team. I don't think his "issue" would even be a huge deal if it didn't happen on national TV. If it had happened in the tunnel or something it would have a minor story, and he'd be looking at being a 1st round lock IMO.

blount has never looked like a first round talenet, maybe a 2nd or 3rd but never once did i think he would sniff the first

LeGarrette Blount seems like a guy the eagles would like to pick up to go back to the old running game back when Westbrook, Staley, and Buckhalter where in as a 3 back system.

Then again i never know what the front office is thinking
