GM Ted Thompson Says Packers Are Always Trying To Get Better

  1. Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press Gazette reports Packers' general manager Ted Thompson spoke for about a half-hour at the Combine,13 minutes at the podium, then another 20 minutes or so on the side with a smaller group and declined almost all specific questions about the Packers' pending free agents. Asked repeatedly about linebacker Aaron Kampman and tackles Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher, Thompson said only they're talking to people and there's "nothing to report." On safety Nick Collins, who could be a restricted free agent, Thompson said, "We're working on it, and have been (for) some time. Cake's not done till it's done." Thompson said, "We're always going to try to get better. I think that the best and most dramatic improvements you can have is from within, and that's what our philosophy … has always been focused on. Now, we also place a high value on the draft, because we feel like that's the future of your core players, and free agents our own as well as maybe some from other teams. We'll do whatever we can to try to help our team, and that's what we try to do."

blah, blah, blah. Build through the draft. FU TT, there are some good free agents out there, spend a little $$ and get in on the action.
