Running Back Darren Sproles is scheduled to be a restricted free agent, but in order for the Chargers to maintain that status they'd have to give him a 10-percent pay raise to $7.28 million, which is too much for a return specialist and change-of-pace running back, so the Chargers will allow Sproles to be an unrestricted free agent. The 49ers would have to find some small role for him on offense, but Sproles' main duty would be as a return specialist. Matt Maiocco of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat writes that the 49ers need the service that Sproles provides, he would likely fit in their budget and Maiocco says he would not be surprised if the club makes a legitimate bid to obtain Sproles' services. Sproles no doubt would be a great fit in the 49ers spread offense. He isn't an every down back but thats exactly what the niners need. Frank Gore is still a viable every down back but Singletary said he can't last forever and Sproles would be a good option to spell Gore.
All my Fortywhiner friends have been crying about wanting a fast change of pace gamebreaker behind Gore and a kick returner...Sproles would be a hellova fit in SF and satisfy a lot of fan outcry to boot. Unfortunately we play them in the reg season this year so I'm adamantly against Sproles to SF.:icon_cheesygrin:
Damn that would make Alex Smith job so much easier with that many weapons including a great running game
