The Eagles will release linebacker Will Witherspoon in the next few days, a league official told Phillyburbs.com this afternoon. The Eagles, desperate for linebackers after injuries to Stewart Bradley and Omar Gaither last year, acquired Witherspoon in a mid-season trade with the Rams for promising rookie receiver Brandon Gibson. Witherspoon played in 12 games with the Eagles. Source: PhillyBurbs.com
Wow, did not expect that one coming. I hope we make a play for him (Although with the OJ Atogwe stuff, highly unlikely).
I guess they felt he wasn't physical enough to beat out Akeem Jordan next year. Too much money slated for a backup that they can spend elsewhere this offseason.
Wow... what seemed like a great move when the deal was made and especially after his first game with the Eagles turned into a wasted bust when the smoke cleared..
