Lions QB Matthew Stafford Ready To "Take This Thing Over"

  1. Matthew Stafford is the Lions unquestioned starting quarterback, and he plans to take a leadership role as he goes through his first full off-season with the team, an important time to develop chemistry with teammates. Offensive Coordinator Scott Linehan said late last year that this off-season would be "huge" for Stafford. "It's the most critical, I think," Linehan said. "You've got to develop that timing and rapport with your guys where you're doing a lot of the work and you're promoting a lot of the extra work, because that's what the great quarterbacks do. They keep the guys working towards getting better at the things we weren't good enough at." That's what Stafford plans to do with wide receivers Nate Burleson and Calvin Johnson and the rest of his teammates, learning each other's quirks and tendencies so everyone is on the same page when the season starts. "I really think I can," Stafford said. "I feel a whole lot better walking around this building than I did probably a year ago, when I first got drafted and came in. It's a completely different feeling. I'm excited to kind of take this thing over and get us going in the right direction."

I'm still not totally sold on him, but I like the guts this kid showed at times last year. Excellent for Lions fans to know this guy is going to make the effort to be a leader.
