A swap of second round picks and a 2011 third round pick...with the other options that are/were out there? One of the worst trades I've seen in a very long time...
Gotta be careful with that, though. We are still in an era where most remember the Hershel Walker and Ricky Williams fiascos... both which were monumentally worse than this one.
Charles in charge.....of our day....and our night Charles in charge.....of our wrongs....and out rights.... ....And I sing...I want....Charles in charge of me! **********Automerged Doublepost********** No, seriously.....Out of the FAs....Brady Quinn #1 then Charlie #2. We are looking for a young guy to groom into Pete Carroll's scheme, not an older guy set in his ways or damaged goods.
True, but there was some sort of "promise" there. You could almost understand what the teams were thinking...almost. Walker was proven and Williams was a college superstar. Charlie Whitehurst has never thrown an NFL pass in 4 years. Hardly worth a swap of second and a 2011 third round pick - especially with the other options that were out there. Maybe Jeremy Bates knows something the rest of the world doesn't. He does have experience with the QBs...
This is a guy who couldn't beat out Billy Volek for #2 on the Chargers roster. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind that addition to the Seahawks, I just think they overpaid for him...by a lot.
For now, I agree with you. However, I am an optimistic person and like to think Jeremy Bates knows what he's talking about with Quarterbacks. Whitehurst is a good fit for his play-action-and-rollout based West Coast scheme, and will be treated as a rookie quarterback. He was never a good fit for San Diego's vertical attack, because he is more of a timing, short-game passer, which is probably why he couldn't beat out Volek.
What's really amazing is that the Chargers got more for Whitehurst than they did for Brees! :icon_eek:
Whitehurst is an question mark the rest of the players on that list have proven that they are not the answer. You can bring him in this year and also draft some one in the mid rounds and see how things work out. While some might say that they over paid this is the NFL and if you have a QB that another team wants to come in and fight for a starting job you are going to make them pay. Add in the fact that the Cards were also in the running for a while it just drives up the price.
There must be something the GMs and coaches know about this guy, that the rest of us don't. I wouldn't have been thrilled to give up that much, but I don't know that I'd be pissed either. Its a lot to give up for a back up, not for a starter though.
I would sign DEREK ANDERSON Trade for: Vick Quinn Gradkowski ect.. Pete Carroll has LOST his damn mind!! LMAO!! I don't even want to think about who he's drafting...
Trade looks brilliant if Whitehurst pans out We turned down a second rounder for Romo before 2006 at a time when he had done just as much in the NFL as Whitehurst
Exactly. I'll give credit where credits due. Romo didn't throw an NFL pass during the regular season either before replacing Drew Bledsoe on Monday Night against the Giants in 2006. Romo has become a really solid QB in the last three seasons as a full time starter. In time, Whitehurst can have the same success as well with the right talent and coaching around him. As a matter of fact, I believe Sean Payton wanted to bring Romo with him to New Orleans before turning his attention to Drew Brees when Jerry Jones wanted a third I believe for Romo.
