Texas FS Earl Thomas To Visit The Dolphins On Tuesday

Discussion in 'Miami Dolphins' started by BigBlueBruiser, Mar 30, 2010.

  1. Free Safety Earl Thomas is scheduled to meet with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday night at the University of Texas, according to an NFL source with knowledge of the situation. At 5-foot-10, 208 pounds, Thomas has outstanding instincts, range and is a physical tackler. He's also being evaluated as a cornerback prospect by some NFL teams.

I think Berry could play both safety and corner better than Thomas.

I agree. But, Berry is expected to be selected within the first 7 picks. So, he will probably not be available to the Dolphins.

You never know. Safeties aren't a high priority for teams at the top of the draft because those guys usually pay 8-10 million a year and the best safety in the world isn't worth that. Polamalu and Ed Reed don't even make that much. The position just isn't high impact and the evolution of the passing game increased the value of cornerbacks but not safeties, unfortunately.

If Berry goes to a team in the top 10 (likely) it will be outside the top 5 (definitely) and to a team who is going to try him out at corner. Because if he fails as a cornerback, he can revert back to safety. Maybe Seattle at 6 or Cleveland at 7.

You're right. I don't see him getting past #7 to Cleveland.

Where do you think Seattle goes at #6 if not with Berry?

Clausen if he's there. Derrick Morgan, Joe Haden, Gerald McCoy if not

If the Dolphins did wind up drafting Thomas with the intent on moving him to CB I would be all for it. He is more physical than Smith is, which is what they need. Then that allows for Smith to play FS because he is tall enough and has the covergae skills to go with guys in the slot as well as TEs. Plus he has great ball skills from being a WR most of his life. Either way our secondary would be full of young skill and developinh talent(Chris Clemons for a SS).
