One of the major changes NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wants in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement is how rookies are compensated since under the current system, rookies often are awarded bigger contracts than most vets. According to Goodell, it's a flaw that those vets aren't happy about either and in an interview with ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, Goodell says players are eager for a change as well. "Yes, we've had a lot of discussion about it and I think there's a recognition that the system is out of whack. I hear this from veteran players," Goodell said. "Veteran players want this changed. It's hard to see a rookie player who hasn't played in the NFL make that kind of money when guys have performed at a high level on the NFL level. That's where the money should be going." Last year, top pick Matthew Stafford signed a $72 million contract with the Detroit Lions that could be worth as much as $78 million and includes $41.7 million guaranteed.

Oh my god I would take back everything negative I have ever said about Goodell if he instituted a rook pay scale. That would be the best thing to happen to the league in 20 years.

Yeah I'm leaning towards it as well.

Just leaning towards? I don't understand how anyone can be against it. This would solve problems that happen to teams with Marshall or Boldin. Then the top picks in the draft would be wanted and maybe some draft day trades could happen with the top 5 picks. Instead of teams not wanting to pick there because of the price. I am praying this happens.

My sentiments exactly!! I've been ranting and raving about this for a long time. It's one of, if not THE biggest flaw in the NFL right now!

    Let's all cross our fingers!!

If this goes through, look for draft day dealing to become VERY active!

As others have said, it would solve a lot of great problems with the salary structures and also allow for those teams that draft these high picks to have a solid chance of resigning the same star players without having to out-do those enormous signing bonuses and rookie contracts.
