49ers WR Ted Ginn To Be Given Every Opportunity To Return Kickoffs, Punts

  1. Pro Football Weekly hears newly acquired Ted Ginn Jr., who was much more effective as a return specialist with the Dolphins than he was as a wide receiver, will be given every opportunity to return both kickoffs and punts with his new team. "You would think they would certainly give it a try," said one team insider of Ginn, who is expected to fill one of the Niners' more glaring needs. "We'll see how he does. One concern they might have is that he has a reputation for not liking to get hit, which is definitely going to happen on punt returns and on kickoffs, he will see more of the field on his returns." Should Ginn, who had his share of problems holding on to passes with the Dolphins, automatically figure as the Niners' new No. 3 receiver behind Michael Crabtree and Josh Morgan? "It's up to him," said the insider. "He certainly has the downfield speed. The biggest thing will be convincing (WR coach) Jerry Sullivan, who can be very dictatorial, that he's truly committed."

I would hope so. He is going to have to work pretty hard to get to that #3 WR spot.
