Media reports claim that the Jets have been quietly shopping Alan Faneca in the weeks leading up to today's draft, but Manish Mehta of The Star-Ledgers is reporting tonight that the team has cut Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca after selecting Massachusetts tackle Vladimir Ducasse with the 61st overall pick in the NFL draft, according to a person familiar with the situation. The person requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak on the Jets or Faneca's behalf. The Jets need to replenish an aging line – left guard Alan Faneca and right tackle Damien Woody are both 32 -- that paved the way for the league's top-ranked rushing attack last season and the team will likely make a formal announcement Monday, according to the person. Part of the reason he was let go was his contract. He probably won't get more than 2 years 6-7M probably. After picking Asamoah we shouldn't touch him.
Man I hope the Vikes pull the trigger on him, we have some pretty glaring issues on the line, instant upgrade. Maybe he wants to go home to Louisiana, though? Do the Saints need a guard?
Hmmm...do you think the bridges are burned in PGH? How much is he willing to play for? With Ben suspended and the Steelers obviously going to be focusing on the run, he'd be a great pickup for the right amount of money!
We are ZBS. Scheme fit is important. Faneca is an amazing lineman but won't fit a ZBS He won't come as a backup unless we pay him a fortune. You don't pay backups fortunes. He will go to a power running team who can get a good 2 or 3 years out of him. Carolina to play RG, perhaps?
