Jaguars general manager Gene Smith explained Saturday that there was a simple reason the Jaguars didn't draft fan favorite Tim Tebow. "Where we picked in the first round, he was not the next player," Smith said. "We felt very strongly about [Tyson] Alualu at our selection." But Smith said the Jaguars spent a lot of time studying Tebow. "In fairness to him and because of our location, we live-scouted every game this year. We probably know as much about him as anybody. We certainly would have considered taking him in the draft," Smith said. "I want to wish him the very best, but when we were picking at that slot, Alualu was the next pick. I'm so happy when I saw Tim get picked in the first round. He's so deserving of that. I felt he could play quarterback in the NFL. If anybody can overcome a lot of things that people have overanalyzed about him, it will be Tim Tebow. His will to prepare, I think, that's unmatched," Smith said. When Smith was asked if Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver talked about the effect Tebow could have had on ticket sales, Smith said, "He didn't have to mention it to me. That was out there in so many different media outlets. He was a guy who was talked about a lot, a number of years. I hope he does well. He's earned the opportunity to be taken by Denver. I'll be rooting for him except when they play the Jaguars."

I'm glad we didn't draft Tebow too. Alulu, whilst not being a household name coming out of college that's been promoted here, there and everywhere, seems like a good pick and it will be interesting to see how it pans out with Knighton and Alulu if we shop John Henderson.

The Jags actually have to defend that decision? The only thing worse than drafting Tebow in the 1st round (lol Denver) would have been drafting him in the Top 10. :icon_eek:

People wanted them to draft Tebow because they feel he'll help sell tickets, but he's not their need. QB is the least of their worries. The defense was atrocious and they still don't have a #2 WR (they lucked out with Sims-Walker having the year he dd).

No one should have to defend themselves not taking Tebow.

He's just not an NFL player, even if he switch's position
