Adam Schefter of ESPN reports one of the main reasons that New Orleans Saints safety Darren Sharper took so long to sign his deal is that, this offseason, he underwent microfracture knee surgery, according to a league source. Microfracture is a much more severe surgery than the arthroscopic knee surgery that Sharper was said to have had; microfracture makes it unclear when Sharper will be available to the Saints this summer or how healthy he will be for the start of the season. It's also is a major reason why Sharper did not draw more interest on the open market.

Whoa, microfracture knee surgery. I guess the Saints knew this.

I think it depends on how extensive the microfracture surgery was. Reggie Bush had microfracture surgery also. However, Reggie is much younger.
