Brent Celek Feels DeSean Jackson Was Sticking Up For Kevin Kolb

Philadelphia Eagles TE Brent Celek checked in for a live chat with fans Tuesday on NFL.com, and the recent comments by teammate DeSean Jackson on the team’s quarterback situation were a hot topic. Jackson told The Sporting News recently that he was “very happy with the decision†by Philadelphia to trade Donovan McNabb to the Redskins last month. McNabb responded diplomatically to the perceived slight, but Celek ultimately feels that Jackson’s true intentions were misunderstood. “With regards to DeSean’s remarks, I think they were taken out of context,†Celek told fans. “I feel like he was misunderstood. I feel like all he was trying to do was back our quarterback in Kevin, and it got skewed somewhat to be taking a shot at Donovan [McNabb], which I don’t think he was.†In talking with Celek, it became clear the tricky position many of the current Eagles are in following the trade. They must try to show respect for what McNabb did in Philadelphia, while also throwing their support behind Kolb. It’s a fine line. “Well, knowing that it was taken out of context, I think DeSean was just trying to support Kolb,†Celek told fans. “But, I respect McNabb. I liked playing with him, but he’s no longer an Eagle, so we’re supporting our current quarterback. Donovan was here for 11 years and helped bring this franchise to where it is today. He deserves some credit for that.â€

So the Eagles players feel that in order to show respect for their current QB they have to put down the previous one? Wow that team needs a leader bad.

i just dont see why it's a big deal that desean, maclin and now celek have all stated the obvious and that's kolb being a more accurate QB will in theory make an offense based on "accuracy" operate more efficiently than before.

 

I have no problem with any of the above EXCEPT for the way Desean worded it about being "very happy" that the change was made. That to me is EXTREMELY disrespectful to not only the man who helped make the Eagles what they are today but also helped to make Desean himself what he is today in the NFL. I and most other people fully expect his stats to decrease under Kolb and maybe then he will change his tune but I have a problem with the way he said it. Everyone else did a good job supporting the QBs we have without disrespecting Donovan so I have no issue with them. D Jax came off like a POS IMO

it's going to be interesting to see how this all unfolds with dejax. in particular his performace and it's conection to his contract demands with rosenpuke at the helm.

 

Yea kolb is more accurate he just doesent have the arm mcnabb does but it could be a good trade off.

 

again, in theory, much more then a good trade as the WCO is based off of a QB's accuracy not his arm strength.

It could be BiTB.... BUT the issue is that so far in his career Desean has not shown that he can consistently get open unless he beats you in a leg race down the field. So it seems that his strengths match up better with McNabb's strengths then they do with Kolbs short quick accurate passes I guess we will see if Desean can adjust his game and stay healthy.

 

I dont think it will be a big deal cause his first game with kolb he got a 71 yard TD pass

 

part of that issue is design because reid put desean in those routes but you are right he will have to show he can play within the true WCO scheme. or will reid keep him where he's at and allow kolb to make the throws eariler in dejax's breaks downfield ?

All Jax was trying to say was that he was very happy "A" change was made instead of having both QBs around and it becoming an issue. I think he worded improperly as Celek pointed out. People are making a big deal of nothing with this.

 

i dont know dawk, the eagles still have a big issue because THE FUTURE is still waiting behind kolb.
