The Colts shouldn't hold their breath that they will see either wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez or safety Bob Sanders running around the field in the preseason. The Indianapolis Star reports that although both players are on schedule with their injury rehabilitation, there's a good chance neither will get medical clearance to fully participate when training camp begins. The progress report is good for Gonzalez in contrast to where he was just more than a month ago in coming back from the knee injury he sustained in Week 1 of the 2009 season but with the emergence of Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie at his position, however, the Colts don't need to bring Gonzalez back to action until he is 100 percent healthy. Sanders is a more integral part of the defense, but last season in their run to the Super Bowl, the Colts did just fine at safety without him as Antoine Bethea and Melvin Bullitt were a sturdy combination. Sanders has a long history of being banged up with his physical playing style, and this time, he's battling both biceps and knee injuries. Source: SportingNews.com
I love watching Bob Sanders play but, if he can't play at least 14 games this year its time to move on
It'll one day be time for Sanders to 'pay the piper' once & for all for his hard hitting style but by-passing preseason would be a good thing. It;s a good thing to limit his risk now especially since he really doesn't need the preseason to get up to speed. & yea, they did just "fine" with Antoine Bethea and Melvin Bullitt but they didn't make people forget that Sanders wasn't out there IMO...
