Safety Eric Berry, now a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, was near the top of the Browns priority list. According to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cleveland Browns made an offer to the Kansas City Chiefs, where they would move up to select Berry with the 5th overall pick. The Chiefs apparently never returned the call, and selected the former Tennessee star. Instead, with the 7th overall pick, the Browns took corner back Joe Haden, who was high on their draft board as well. Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer
The Browns still picked up Oregons T.J. Ward in the second round, and let me tell you this kid hits hard. If he puts you in the crosshairs he leaves a smoking hole where you used to be.
Yeah, I know you can't count on video clips for much but the guy likes to punish people from what I've seen. Not gonna lie and say I wasn't in love with Berry on draft night and not 100% consoled by the Haden pick, but the two young safeties we picked up (Ward and Larry Asante) are both pretty solid players.
