Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that Browns restricted free agent D'Qwell Jackson simply needs to wake up because the team has Scott Fujita, Eric Barton, David Bowens and Chris Gocong as legitimate inside linebackers. Jackson is not happy about being offered the second-round tender for a four-year player – $1.759 million – especially since he was promised a new deal by the previous regime. Jackson needs to sign, because he may not even start on this team. Just like what happened at cornerback to Eric Wright and Brandon McDonald, Jackson's world has changed with all the new players who can take his job. Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer
Jackson got comfortable being the best defensive player on a horrible team, now the team is getting better without him. Thats not to say that he doesnt deserve a contract, or that he wont make the squad. Just that the new standards of the team have been set much higher than before, time to step his game up.
He's coming off a significant neck injury, and he's dealing with the same issue that Josh Cribbs was upset about. He needs to realize whatever previous management promised him means nothing anymore, they haven't seen you play any football, and he is in real danger of being the odd man out because of his pouting. Is he better than Eric Barton? I don't think there's a doubt there, but the way this coaching staff is working I wouldn't want to piss them off, because they'll move on without you if you're gonna be a rod..
