The NFL has been absent from Los Angeles since 1994, leaving a hole in the nation's second-largest media market. And while commissioner Roger Goodell has refused to commit to the idea that the league will actually return to the city, he did rule out one possibility for future NFL games there. Los Angeles will not be used as a host for neutral games between other NFL teams, Goodell told PFT's Mike Florio in the site's season-preview magazine. Some have speculated that Los Angeles, which still does not have a new stadium to host future NFL games, could emerge as a home for neutral games if they NFL expands its schedule to 17 or 18 games. But Goodell ruled that out, and said if the league returns to L.A, it will be with a franchise. He told PFT: "Southern California and Los Angeles in particular, they want their football team. They don't want somebody else's for a week. One of the things that makes our sport great is that these teams represent their communities on a regular basis. I don't see a series of neutral-site games solving the problem in Los Angeles." Source: USA Today
They want their football back? They didn't support teams enough to keep them there. They moved to St. Louis and Oakland ....smaller markets. Why? Because there's so much going on in SoCal that football is only cool when "their" team is on top. Still can't believe that a city the size of LA can't support a team enough to make them the wealthiest franchise in the league but they don't.
