Broncos OLB Elvis Dumervil, who led the NFL with 17 sacks last season, agreed to a contract extension with the team Thursday night, though the Broncos did not reveal any details per club policy. "He has established himself as one of the NFL's premier pass rushers, and he's an important part of the foundation we are building with this team. We are excited to have him as an integral part of the Broncos well into the future," GM Brian Xanders said in a team release. Dumervil, who has 43 sacks in four NFL seasons, is a nightmare to block. His long arms and 5-11, 248-pound frame grant him tremendous leverage while allowing him to get underneath the pad level of many towering tackles. "We are thrilled to have agreed to terms with Elvis Dumervil on a contract extension," head coach Josh McDaniels said. "Elvis is a very talented player who will help lead our defense and is also an outstanding person and teammate. The way he has handled this lengthy negotiation this offseason is a great example of the type of player and person we want on our team. We look forward to Elvis' impact for many years to come." UPDATE: The Denver Broncos have hammered out a new contract with Pro Bowl outside linebacker Elvis Dumervil tonight, the team announced Dumervil received a five-year extension with $43.1 million in guaranteed money, a league source confirmed. Dumervil's deal, which was negotiated by Gary Wichard, is worth a total of $61.5 million. Per a league source, Dumervil's professionalism helped the deal get done because he didn't complain about his status as a restricted free agent. Last year, Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl outside linebacker Terrell Suggs signed a six-year, $62.5 million deal. That deal included $38 million in guaranteed money and was also negotiated by Wichard. "I am pleased to announce the extension of Elvis Dumervil's contract with the Denver Broncos," general manager Brian Xanders said. "He has established himself as one of the NFL's premier pass rushers, and he's an important part of the foundation we are building with this team. We are excited to have him as an integral part of the Broncos well into the future." Dumervil led the NFL with a franchise-record 17 sacks last season. Source: National Football Post
Is he any good in run support? I know he's the man pass rushing but as short as he is I wasn't sure if he held his own against the run. Nice extension for the guy.
43 guaranteed? I like Dumervil as a pass rusher and as a play in general, but that is a lot of money for a one dimensional player.
WOW....gooooodbye woodley, im sure a better pass rusher who cant be moved in the run game is gonna command more than this. this is seriously goobered to give a one dimensional 34 OLB this much money, pass rushing OLBs in a 34 are a dime a dozen, the well rounded ones like ware, harrison and woodley are the premier talents
