SI's Jim Trotter has reported via twitter that Raiders coach Tom Cable has formally named Jason Campbell as the starting quarterback for the Raiders and indicated there would be no open competition for the job. Cable praised Campbell's "leadership and professionalism" and said the players have responded to that. Periodic 2009 starter Bruce Gradkowski is the favorite to win the backup job and proved to the Raiders last year that he can be a competent starter should Campbell get injured. Campbell was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the 1st round of the 2005 draft but has thus far not achieved the level of excellence he displayed in college. He was traded to the Raiders in April 2010 for a draft pick. There's about what? 100 QBs on a team in the league at once? Going from JaMarcus Russell to Jason Campbell is like going from the 100th ranked QB to a top 30 QB. **********Automerged Doublepost********** The guy LOST us games. Zach Miller would be wide open, not even 10 yards from the guy, with his numbers perfectly showing and he throws all his strength into the throw and it literally goes straight, but slanted down right to his feet. IT DIDN'T MAKE ANY god**mn SENSE!
Ya JC is a HUGE upgrade over Russell. Even if you ranked him 30th based on last years play he has the potential to be much better. Plus the raiders have beefed up the oline and those young wrs have another season under thier belt. Raiders could be pretty good next year....
i don't think anyone thinks JC is ever going to be Peyton Manning, but he is a more stable piece at that position than they've had in a lot of years.
