Hmmm. I guess money doesn't buy you everything you want. I'm really not surprised to see this. Cuban is an owner with progressive ideas. By and large, the current MLB owners are a good old boys club who are stuck in the 1960s, and who don't want a progressive thinker in their midst. Also, one of the current MLB owners is Jerry Reinsdorf, who owns the Chicago White Sox and the NBA's Chicago Bulls. He hates Cuban with a passion. One of Reinsdorf's long time friends is Bud Selig, the MLB commish. Need I say more?
what does that have to do with ryan's group outbidding cuban ? the good old boys had nothing to do with that.
No. However, he had the highest bid when he was trying to buy the Cubs. But, he didn't get them, did he?
different situation i believe. this was a bankruptcy auction whereas the cubs were sold by the former ownership privately to avoid it. if cuban had the highest bid at the end of the auction i don't think MLB could do a thing about it.
For some reason the league wants nothing to do with Cuban. He attempted to buy the Cubs and didn't get approved. I have a feeling it's because Cuban would become the Yankees vs. 2, and the league doesn't want that. If they would get a salary cap then they wouldn't have to worry about it, but they have to protect their beloved Yankees.
The first big test for the new ownership will be to re-sign Cliff Lee. If they can't, and he walks to either the Yankees or the Phillies, the Rangers fans that wanted Ryan and Greenberg as the new owners will turn on them in a heartbeat. BTW, I mentioned the Yankees and Phillies because of something I read in another sports forum that I belong to. The poster there said that Lee has made a short list of teams he wants to go to after this season. He wants to go to either the Yankees or Phillies. He wants to go to the Yankees for obvious reasons. He wants to go to the Phillies because he's good friends with Jayson Werth and Jamie Moyer. I believe Lee lived in Moyer's house for a while when they both were playing for the Mariners.
