NBC Removes Keith Olbermann From Sunday Night NFL Games

Multiple media and network television sources confirmed to me Thursday that Keith Olbermann will not appear on NBC’s Football Night In America Sunday evening NFL broadcasts this season. Some members of the FNIA cast and crew were made aware of the news Monday at a preseason production meeting in New York City. I’m told that NBC News officials requested the move, citing Olbermann’s weekday commitment to MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann. During the 2009 NFL season, Olbermann periodically did not appear on Friday editions of Countdown. Network television sources confirmed to me that Olbermann’s departure from FNIA was not due to any conflict with cast or production crew members.

He was out of his element talking football anyways - I wish him the best but this is a good move.

I don't know that he doesn't know football, but trying to relate it back to Countdown with the worst person in America, etc. was pretty bad. Unless you've watched his show on MSNBC you wouldn't get the reference, and even if you did, it was kind of stupid.

  4. I still think Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football was worse....

Yeah, but he had to go for the same reason. I think both of them were capable of being good.

It was just too much of "here's my gig crammed into your football where it doesn't belong."
They were trying to adjust the job to them instead of adjusting to the job.

  9. True but Olbermann never called a football game and that would've been just as bad, if not worse.

Maybe they could have been good if they found their niche but they just didn't seem like good football personalities. ABC's hiring Miller was just an attempt to boost declining ratings. He never really seem to click with the viewers.

I love Dennis Miller's act sometimes, he can be really funny, but he was terrible on MNF. I didn't mind Olberman nearly as much, but I won't miss him.

I loved Miller. He knew his crap and his dry sarcastic humor was fun. Alot of people weren't quick enough on the uptake to get his brand of funny so it didn't fly.

as a comedian he was meh, ok. as a football commentator he was an epic fail. not on his part, he is what he is, but on the network's. who the hell gave a crap about how the economic and soical systems of the ming dynasty relate to a 3 and 2 play call in the 3rd quarter of a tie game ?

now to get back on subject. the only time i will ever smile when i hear the name ken olberman brought up is if it's follwed by: "has aids".
