The Jets haven't made any progress in contract talks with disgruntled cornerback Darelle Revis. ESPN Insider Adam Schefter writes that Revis is getting advice from his uncle, Sean Gilbert, which may be bad news for New York after Gilbert sat out the entire 1997 season before being traded from the Washington Redskins to the Carolina Panthers, where he landed the seven-year, $46.5 million deal he wanted. Revis is reportedly prepared to do what his uncle once did. The Jets will continue to try to get him back in camp, but there have been no signs of a breakthrough. Source: RealGM.com
i know nfl contracts are confusing but if the jets have any room under the cap for this season, is there any way they could just throw a couple of million dollars at him to get through this season and then get him signed long-term after the cba is figured out? that may not be possible though.
No disrespect towards Revis' family but Darelle is a man who can make his own decisions Sean. What is he going to tell Revis next after he does hold out for the year, demand a trade?
I doubt he'd actually sit out the entire season, but if I wouldn't call his bluff if I were the Jets. They sure as heck better get something done before this season.
No Revis might even = No Playoffs. They just squeezed in last year, and it was all because of their defense.
They did improve on the offensive side bringing in Holmes and Tomlinson. Greene has a year under his belt and should be ready to carry the rock. They brought in Jason Taylor on the defensive side who can still be an effective pass rusher, drafted Kyle Wilson who can be a good nickel back and return specialist, and traded for Antonio Cromartie. Wilson however would be forced to start if Revis' holdout extends to the regular season. I think the Jets will still make the playoffs even without Revis but the AFC East will belong to Miami this year if thats the case. The Jets willl likely be a one and done in the postseason.
I have my doubts that Tomlinson will be an improvement over Thomas Jones. I don't know who is replacing Alan Faneca. Holmes should help, though.
I'm starting to look at it as Greene replacing Jones and LT taking Greene's old #2 spot. Maybe they cut Faneca a year too early but sometimes thats better than a year too late. Holmes won't be available for the Jets until Week 5 so they'll hurt them a little entering the year, but he should really improve the Jets passing attack when he returns. I think he Jets still have a shot with Revis to make the playoffs but as far as the Super Bowl....out the window.
do we think revis really cares? i think he's just looking for a $60 or $70 million contract that will set him for life .....................
